- Description
Roter Löwe - Elector of Brandenburg Galleon from 1597
The galleon Roter Löwe was built in the Netherlands in 1597 and was bought in
1601 by the Council of Königsberg on the account of the Great Elector of
Brandenburg.
It was on service as a vedette-boat in Pillau from 1602 to 1605 under the
command of Captain Peter Hinze. In October 1608, under the command of Captain
Johann Fett, the galleon sailed with a shipment of wood to Lisbon, where it was
sold with the cargo.
The size of Roter Löwe is unknown, but on the basis of a tonnage of 240 tons and
the construction method of the time, it is possible to reconstruct a ship with a
length of 28 metres from stem to stern and a width of about 8 metres.
The construction kit, equipped with all fittings in wood and metal and very
good, easily readable drawings, guarantees the production of a model, which
captivates above all by its detailed construction and a convincing impression of
the state of the shipbuilding art at that time conveys. The individual parts are
largely prefabricated, the keel and ribs have already been sawn out.
The model has a 2nd planking and has of course a German construction manual.

Mamoli by Dusek
The shipbuilding kits of Mamoli have been very popular for many years. A wide range of different models and classic design features at the same attractive price distinguish this series. Now it has been brought up to date technologically by the takeover of Dusek. Today, the kits are all manufactured with modern laser technology, which ensures high accuracy of fit of the parts. A double hull planking is standard. Many fittings made of cast metal or wood as well as multilingual building instructions and detailed blueprints enrich this modular series.
