San Martin
The San Martin was the flagship of the famous "Armada Invencible" (Invincible Spanish Armada) under the command of the Duke of Medina Sidonia in 1588. San Martin survived heavy damage at the Battle of Gravelines by a group of English ships. She was originally built as the Portuguese galleon Sao Martinho in 1580. There are no original plans of this ship but it is thought to have been about 180 feet long and displaced 1000 tons. She carried 48 cannons of various calibres.
The kit is constructed with very accurate laser plywood parts. The hull is planked with one layer of 2 mm battens. Because of the numerous fender strips, double planking was not used. All fittings, sailcloth, a boat stand and of course detailed building instructions, as well as construction plans are included in the kit.
