Hanse Kogge
The Hanseatic cog is a sailing ship of the Hanseatic League from the 14th
century. These cogs were primarily used for trade, and in times of military
conflict between the Hanseatic cities, especially with pirates, they were
equipped with forts and sometimes cannons for protection.
The cog usually has a mast and a square sail. Just below or at the top of the
mast they had a so-called crow's nest as a lookout. Depending on the equipment,
they had an aft fort and, from the 14th century onwards, often also a bow fort
for better defence.
The Krick kit, designed by Daniel Dusek, contains 2 forts, a horizontal capstan
and a main capstan as well as a dinghy and cargo which is lashed to the deck.
The planks for the clinker planking are already laser cut and the frames contain
the gradations for the clinker planking so that planking does not cause any
great difficulties. All accessories are laser cut or come as etched brass parts
with the kit. It also contains the planking strips for the deck, pre-printed
flags for various Hanseatic cities, the fabric for the sail and enough rigging
twine for the entire rigging. A detailed construction plan and detailed
instructions with sketches help with assembly, which should therefore be no
problem even for inexperienced modellers.
