Dutch state yacht from the 17th century
Statenjacht is the type of ship used in the Netherlands since the 17th century
to transport important government or corporate figures. These ships have a flat
bottom, a rounded bow and a richly decorated stern. Cannons on board the ship
were used for saluting and signalling. Ships of this type were usually between
18m and 21m long. This model represents a statenjacht in the service of the
Dutch East India Company (VOC-Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie).
