Nige Wark – Survey and Research Vessel RC Kit 1:25
History
In the mid-1960s, the city of Hamburg planned the construction of an outer harbor near the island of Neuwerk on the Outer Elbe. For this purpose, a survey and research vessel was commissioned from the Garber Shipyard in Hamburg. The vessel was intended to investigate how the tidal currents behave in this mudflat area for Hamburg’s waterway and port construction authority. In addition, the ship was to deploy navigation markers, take soil samples, transport survey boats and land vehicles, and enable current flow studies. The designers entered new territory by creating a vessel with an exceptionally shallow draft suitable for mudflat operations, while also being effectively usable at high tide through ballast tanks. In 2015, the *Nige Wark* was decommissioned and is now privately owned.About the Kit
The Nige Wark kit was developed based on the original model construction plans and in close cooperation with VTH Publishing. Manfred Kaiser-Pletscher adapted the design for a kit and created a highly detailed functional model at a scale of 1:25. Particularly noteworthy are the fully functional crane, the simple interior layout of the wheelhouse, the working radar, and the deck and navigation lighting. The kit includes a vacuum-formed ABS hull, laser-cut parts for the deck, superstructure, and crane, basic components for the drive and rudder system, as well as shaped 3D-printed parts for the crane. A detailed illustrated manual and a full-size 1:1 plan are also included. Fine fittings such as lamps, anchor winches, ventilators, and additional details are included in the optional fittings set. The special crane function set includes a worm gear, three geared motors, and the required metal parts for the three crane functions (rotation, lifting/lowering, crane winch).Special Features
