- Description
Joffre Steam tugboat
The Joffre was built in 1916 by the Ardrossan Dry Dock & Shipbuilding Co. and was used in Newcastle. She was used for both coastal and river Tyne towing. Unusually for tugs of the period, she had two towing hooks, the rear one being used for smaller tows.
The Joffre kit features a GRP hull and CNC cut wooden parts for the deck and superstructure. These new pre-milled parts greatly improve the accuracy of fit, making assembly much easier. The fittings set contains over 300 metal castings that make the model look extremely realistic. Also included are 3 crew members with ship's dog.
A large building plan and detailed German building instructions with detail sketches are also included.
The Joffre is very suitable for the installation of the steam engine Alex with a horizontal boiler and separate gas tank. Installation is unproblematic in the spacious hull, but should be considered from the start of the model.
