Schaarhörn Shipmodel Kit

The Schaarhörn was built in 1908 on behalf of the Hamburg Senate as a sounding and sightseeing steamer. She was mainly used for representative purposes and was Hamburg's state yacht. In addition to well-known personalities of the time, Kaiser Wilhelm II also sailed on this yacht. From 1925, the Schaarhörn was based in Cuxhaven. On 30.08.1973, the ship was sold to Scotland. The buyer left the very luxuriously equipped ship to rot. In 1990, interested parties in Hamburg founded the "Verein der Freunde des Dampfschiffes Schaarhörn" (Association of Friends of the Steamship Schaarhörn) to raise the funds to buy back and restore the Schaarhörn.

Today, the Schaarhörn shines again in its former glory after several years of sacrificial restoration work. The restoration of the ship was carried out according to large original plans that were still available in the archives. The riveted iron hull had to be 30% renewed. The now listed state yacht requires a crew of 10, as in the past. The ship can be chartered for promotional and company trips. It is considered the most beautiful steamship in Germany.

The model of the Schaarhörn was built as faithfully as possible according to plans and many photos of the original. The materials used for the model are just as accurate as those used for the original. The finely detailed GRP hull shows all rivets carefully reproduced.

The wooden parts for the superstructure are CNC-cut for an exact fit. Window frames, decorations on the bulwark and many parts have been etched from sheet brass in a multi-layer process to give as faithful an impression as possible to the original. Over 850 fittings made of carefully cast white metal ensure the absolute scale fidelity of this model, right down to each bulwark support with all its screw connections. The wooden deck as well as the visible wooden parts are already pre-printed.

The construction of this model is intended for experienced modellers. The installation of a steam engine requires an additional keel for this narrow hull, which is not included in the kit.
